In 2014 Q-Bot received its first orders from customers to trial the solution, alongside private investment from EcoMachines Ventures.

Q-Bot first insulated homes in early 2014 as part of a trial with customers including Camden Council, CityWest Homes and Peabody. The results of the trials were very positive, demonstrating a reduction in heat loss through the floor of 80%, an average improvement in airtightness for the whole house of 1/3 and a saving in energy bills of up to £300 per year. Residents benefiting from the service particularly liked the no hassle nature of the install, reduction in cold draughts and much warmer feet!

In 2015 the company secured a €2.13m grant from the European Union's Horizon 2020 program to refine the technology and prepare for market launch. Q-Bot received further private investment in 2016 and 2017 from ClearlySo, Curious Capital, Chicago Booth, London Business Angels, Wroxall and Minerva networks of Business Angels. In 2017 completed the necessary accreditations, demonstrating compliance with the Building Regs and securing the highly prized British Board of Agrément (BBA) certification.

Today, Q-Bot has a number of busy installation teams and is expanding fast across the UK. The company has a growing team of over 25 employees in offices in London, Newcastle. Following successful trials in France, Q-Bot has now setup its first overseas office in Paris. The company is currently focused on expanding the reach of the underfloor insulation service and is working on a number of exciting new innovations with continued support from InnovateUK and BEIS.

Q-Bot's Vision

Q-Bot develops intelligent tools using robotics and AI that can inspect, monitor and maintain the health of our buildings. Q-Bot's mission is to transform the built environment with robotics and AI to become a global leader in construction innovation.

Q-Bot was founded when Tom Lipinski identified a huge, untapped need for under floor insulation, if the practical challenges could be overcome. Working with Professor Peter Childs and Mathew Holloway they developed a robotic solution that could apply insulation without having to rip the house apart.

As a result of this work Q-Bot has developed a number of exciting robotic and AI technologies which can be deployed across a range of applications. They include robotic vehicles, advanced manufacturing and 3D printing techniques, control routines for autonomous localisation and navigation, 3D mapping of environments with automatic categorisation of features, as well as tools to manage the installation process and data collected.

Head Office

Q-Bot's head office is located at Block G, Riverside Business Centre, SW18, 4UQ, Wandsworth, London, where it has offices, production and lab space for building and testing robots, alongside an operational facility to train and support installers.

The nearest station is Earlsfield which is about a 5 to 10 minute walk away. By train you can reach Earlsfield in about 5 to 10 minutes from Clapham Junction, Vauxhall or Waterloo. If walking from Earlsfield station please head down Haldane Place and Block G is straight in front of you, once through the gates. Alternatively, Southfields on the District Line is about a 15 minute walk away and can be reached via a footbridge over the river Wandle on the North side of the business park.
